Understanding the timeline and frequency of log events helps you gain visibility into your system.

Today, we’re excited to introduce a new feature: Log Histograms. This feature is designed to help you visualize log data, giving you a clearer understanding of when and how often different types of log events occur.

Why Histograms?

Say you’re investigating a system outage. With histograms, you get an at-a-glance breakdown of when errors occurred (and at what severity level). This visualization helps you pinpoint the critical moments leading up to the incident, allowing for faster diagnosis and resolution.

When dealing with logs, especially over multiple pages and numerous lines, it can be challenging to get a sense of the overall time frame and the distribution of log events. Histograms solve this problem by grouping logs by time and presenting them in an easy-to-read format.

Key Features
Time-Based Grouping
  • Orientation: Quickly understand the time frame of your logs.

  • Visualization: Logs are grouped by time, providing a clear picture of when events occurred.

Stacked Bar Chart
  • Error Distribution: See the percentage of errors, warnings, and informational messages.

  • Insightful Analysis: The stacked bar chart format helps you quickly identify periods with high error rates or other significant events.

Comprehensive Context

Histograms offer more than just raw data. By providing a visual representation, they help you quickly grasp the overall log distribution. This feature is especially useful for large datasets, where traditional log viewing might overwhelm you with information.

Happy troubleshooting!
